The Tongue is an important body organ that can be used to perform early diagnosis of systemic or local medical and oral diseases. In this study the tongue of 400 people coming from COMFANDI – EPS at Santa Rosa Den-tal Service, and some private dental offices were evaluated in Cali- Colombia. Results are presented as more common tongue pathologic findings.

Tongue pathologic diseases were in order of fre-quency: Saburral tongue (30%), Fissure tongue (11.25%), Geographic tongue (7.8%), Glossy tongue (6.75%), Secondary macro-glosia were the more frequent single diagnosis. However, tongue disease combinations like saburral and fissure tongue (3.5%) were present but less frequent.More common tongue diagnostics were benign and asymptomatic diseases. Other diagnosis such as Secondary macroglosia may be related to molar extractions and could be solved by dental replacement. Regarding life threatening diseases on the tongue, two patients had lingual ulcers that later confirmed to be escamous carcinoma. Thus, tongue careful evaluation during dental first examination is an important procedure to help diagnose and treat benign and malign tongue diseases.
